BTE's Golden Anniversary Invitation

Dear BTE Family,

In 1976, the Black Theatrical Ensemble was born out of a simple but powerful idea:

That there needed to be a space at the University of Georgia where Black voices, stories, and experiences could be expressed fully, honestly, and creatively.

The Black Theatrical Ensemble was created fifty years ago as a space for expression, storytelling, and community at the University of Georgia.

Our earliest productions were bold, thought-provoking, and deeply rooted in truth. Performances like “Darkness Is Light” challenged audiences and introduced a new cultural presence on campus.

We didn’t just perform—we created conversation, reflection, and community.

What began as a vision has grown into a legacy—one shaped by generations of students, artists, and leaders who carried BTE forward with creativity, courage, and purpose.

Fifty years later, that spirit still lives.

On Sunday, April 26, 2026, we will come together to celebrate the legacy that began in those early years and continues through every generation that followed.

The current BTE students will present Sister Act at 2:30 PM—carrying forward the tradition that started in those first productions. The reception will follow.

Where: Tate Center, University of Georgia
Time: 6:00 PM — Reunion Program & Reception

Here is an invitation to Join the 50th Celebration with all the details

Early in my career, there was an enounter that I replayed for hours afterward. During a faculty meeting, I started to share a thought. I said “I feel like we should…” And before I could finish, I was interrupted. “Nobody cares what you feel.” A senior faculty member said it. Out loud. You could have heard a pin drop. What just happened? I stayed composed. Finished the meeting. Moved on. But later? I replayed it. Over and over. Not because I didn’t know what to say. But because something...

You are not too much. What you’re experiencing is something more layered. There’s a framework I teach called The Meaning Split™. And once you see it, you cannot unsee it. Here’s the concept: Most of us think we’re reacting to what happened in a room, in a conversation, in a moment. We’re not. We’re actually carrying three separate experiences — collapsed into one emotional response: 1. The INTENTION — what you actually meant. Your purpose in that moment.2. The INTERPRETATION — how someone...

What if I told you… This isn’t a confidence problem? Most women I work with are not lacking confidence. They’re highly aware. Highly capable. But they’re caught in a pattern. A quiet one. You say something. Someone reacts. And instantly, your brain goes to: “What did I do wrong?” But here’s what’s actually happening: You’re not just reacting to the moment. You’re reacting to what you’ve learned that moment means about you. It's conditioning..... and that distinction matters. Because it means...
